Tell Your Story:

This all started back in December of 2000. My brother had placed my mom in a nursing home. The reason my mom had a very severe back strain that left her unable to walk because of the pain. Mom had a heart arrthymia to which she had a pacemaker/defibillator placed in 1998. This had never went off in all the time she had it. All Mom's medical problems had been under controll for 3 years until being placed in the nursing home. The nursing home my mom was in never acknowledge my moms cry of stomach pain. They would tell us she was only behaving this way to make the family feel guilty for putting her in a nursing home. I knew this not to be true. I knew my mother well and this was no act. I also am the one who cared for my mom and took her to the doctors and hospital when she needed to go. After only 2 weeks of being in this nursing home Mom hemmoraged from her colon. Mom was very lucky she survived this. Mom did not want to come home she still could not walk and believed that all she needed was therapy. Mom's hospital Dr placed mom in a rehab hospital that could meet all her needs and provide therapy. This again did not work. Mom still was in so much back pain she could not walk. She was in rehab for 3 months. During this time near the end of her stay she was slightly confused. When I ask what could be causing this they said that she would be released sometime this week. Theyed let the nursing home diagnose mom. Mom went to her second nursing home. They found mom to have a bladder infection. Mom has had a catherer every since being placed in the first nursing home. There was no medical reason for this. Mom was treated and back to her self. This is June 2001 mom acquires a staph blood infection no doubt from the nursing home. Mom again survives this deadly infection. Mom had no complication and again was herself. Mom was no longer hurting from her back. It seemed as thought all the antibiotics she was given had somehow cleared up whatever was causing the extreme bain in her back. Mom was ready to go about the business of hard work to get back to walking and excited about going home. Mom was not put in therapy. 10 days after first infection mom again had another blood infection. Mom was not sent to her regular hospital this time she was sent where they knew nothing about her medical history. Mom was treated for the blood infection which cleared up. This time Mom was put on antipsychotic drugs, antidepressant, ativan injections etc. This was to help with her agitation, hallucinations and to control her. Mom lost her eyesight and hearing and almost her life on these drugs. Mom became unresponsive. The doctor did bring my mom out of it. Mom was okay. The doctor dced the drugs and had a neuropsychitrist evaluate mom. Her diagnoses, anxiety, depression all brought on by mom wanted to go home. I told my mom I would take her home to my house. Mom was looking forward to going home. My brother had came up with a power of attorney back dated May of 2001 he would not let me take my mom home. I had to legally comply. I had filed for Guardainship of my mom back in early June because the hospital doctor had diagnosed mom with a stroke and said because mom was bedridden and could not take care of herself she needed a guardian. Mom never had a stroke only a blood infection which did not affect her brain. Anyway mom had to return to the nursing home again. I told mom it was just until I prepared a room for her at home. Mom would say it sure is taking a long time to fix that room. I didn't have the heart to tell her that my brother and the courts would not let me bring her home. After being released back to the nursing home without my knowledge they had given my mom back the drugs the hospital doctor said she could not take. Again my mom lost her sight and hearing. This time it would never return because noone listen to me. The courts were now involved. I was told I could not do my moms medical. I had to stay out of it. Because my brother had P.O.A it was only financial. The courts said it did not matter he had to do both. I was told I could not ask question concerning my mom's health that I was only a vistor. I was told if I continued to interfer a restraining order would be issued against me. I was told that the judge let the P.O.A stand although my brother knew nothing about my Mom's medical and had done nothing for her except keep her social securtiy income. everything my mom owned. etc. I was the one who provided for my mom's needs. I was told by court investigator there would be no hearing. I was told that if I wanted to contest I would have to get a lawyer. I did. My brother did nothing for my mom medically. Mom was agitated, hallucinating, very talkative, she was never the same after being placed on the drugs. Her blood pressure would drop, she would complain of stomach pain, ear pain, not being able to see etc. Noone paid attention to her. They left her in her room which the light were kept off. Mom would go through mood swings. They would let her sit in her wheelchair until she would fall asleep and fall out. Mom fell a total of 8 times in 1 year. leaving her badly bruised, but of course they did not document this. Mom was dehydrated, malnourised and druged against her will. I did go to the hearing with my attorney. I was threatened that if I didn't agree to take classes I would not be able to see my mom again. I was told if I took the classea I could have the guardainship when I completed the classes. The classes would start the next week and last for three weeks. I agreed because the court investigator said she would testify that I was a trouble maker and I was told the judge would believe her over me. She said that by agreeing to the classes they would give me guardainship of my mom. This was a lie. On the way out of the court room my attorney told me that she was a guardian under this same service. She also said she thought I would be pleased with Guardain since mom would have more people advocating for her. She told me I would not be able to file for guardain for a year. She also told me that Guardain Service was hurting for money so they needed all the wards they could get. This was the real reason I did not get Guardian of my mom. This Guardain did nothing for my mom she did not advocate, she did nothing about the meds, she did not do her fiduciary duty, she did not take possesion of my mom's belongings, She Did Nothing. I wrote complaints to the court calling for an investigation of Guardain. Nothing was done. The courts ignored all of my complaints. Guardain placed my mom in hospice after my mom was sent to the hospital for dehydratio. I made complaints to the state, etc. I feel this was a cover up since the first day I applied for Guardainship. Guardain placed my mom in her fourth nursing home in a year. Mom was there 6 weeks and had already been dropped twice. She had been sent to the hospital for dehydration. Nursing home documented this as heart attack. Mom for the last 8 months of her life could not see or hear or walk. Mom begged and cried constantly in pain for someone to help her. She would say that they were going to let her die. She did not understand why these people were doing this to her. We could not tell her. Six weeks after getting a Guardian Mom was placed in hospice with a diagnoses of end stage alzheimers. I ask many time for a new test PET to be taken to confirm Alzheimers and was told by guardian she would not advocate for my mother. I begged, pleaded, for her to talk to the doctor about the test. I reported to Medicare, medicaid, state all the agencies I could think of and noone helped. I insisted I would have an autopsy done. I was told from director of Guardainship that they would not allow an autopsy. Yet she knew she had no jursidiction when my mom died. My mom died 6 weeks after being in hospice. My sister and I were restrained from seeing mom 5 days before she became unresponsive and would never regain consciousness again. I was called and told they would lift the restraint if I stayed out of the way and let the hospice people to their job. My sister and I went to see mom and stayed with mom the four days it took her to die. We stayed day and nignt our mom had said she wanted us with her when she died. The nurses had told us mom was given a shot of Roxenol an hour before going into a coma. They continued to give mom drops under the tongue. To which mom would gasp for air. This went on for four days. Mom would be given the drops and then she would gasp for air. I know from the bottom of my heart mom was murdered. When mom died I called the police and told them the story and I believed they had killed my mom. I was told a complete autopsy would be performed. Including forenscic and toxicology. According to Medical Examiner only a cranial had been performed. He said mom died a sudden death. I told him what I had told the investigator Medical examiner said he was not aware of any of that and he would go back and do the toxicology Mom was positive to morphine, opiates, norpropoxyphene. Mom had no mental illness. The doctor ruled heart disease as her cause of death. Why was my mom in hospice? My mom suffered for 8 months under court protection, she was murdered under court protection, Now noone will hold these people responsiabe. I cant even find an attorney who will touch this case. These people are murdering our loved ones. We will be next.

Sincerely, Beverly Donias
